About 4 or 5 years ago, we started our saltwater fishtank. It was a gift from my parents. The tank is a 55 gallon glass tank and is filled with Fiji live rock. The live rock acts as natural filteration system. Typically, all kinds of live critters use the rock as their home and many live organisms grow out of it.

This crab grew out of the live rock in the system and was not purchased. It's about an inch long now.

Starting again after the big ice storm here. No power for one week. Everything died. Added lionfish.

The tank has a Remora hang-on protein skimmer manufactured by Aqua C which does a good job removing particulate matter and nutrients from the water. Very good skimmer.

The photo to the left illustrates a mushroom soft coral and a leather coral.

The polyps are extended on the corals as they feed through the water column.

The tank also includes a Marineland® Emperor particulate matter filter on the back in addition to two power filters for water movement across the sides of the tank.

I do a partial water change of about 4 gallons once a month. I do not use reverse osmosis water...just tap water for the water changes and have had no problems with that method.

For the most part, my system is very stable and I don't mess with it much except to do water changes and top offs.

I do tend to have Aptasia issues from time-to-time. A good Peppermint Shrimp takes care of that problem unless another critter decides to eat it for a snack.

I feed my Tang and other fish dry food once-a-day. Every other day or so, I add some packaged dry green algae to the tank. I'll also feed them frozen brine shrimp.

I don't do anything with the Anemones. They eat (or filter) whatever is in the water column and seem to do just fine.
